 Gymnastic Teams

Gymnastics

GymnasticsThis year the gymnastics teams were coached by Mr Agustin Osorio, who represented his native country Cuba at the 1980 Moscow Olympics.  Training took place after school on  Tuesdays and we entered an A and B team in both the Wandsworth Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 competitions.  All the children  performed brilliantly with the Year 3/4 ‘A’ team finishing 6th in the A team competition and the ‘B’ team finishing 5th in the ‘B’ team competition.  Gymnastics

There was a lot of excitement in the air when the Year 5/6 results were announced.  We all clapped and cheered when we heard that Hotham ‘B’ team finished 3rd in the B competition.  Then the A competition results were read out in reverse order.  The children waited eagerly to hear our school’s name.  When the third place team was announced and we still hadn’t heard Hotham’s name, our excitement grew!  The A team had come second!  This was a great result,   especially as it was the first time we had entered a team in the Year 5/6 competition.  Well done to all our gymnastic teams!

Hotham Basketball Teams

basketballFor the first time, Hotham entered in the Wandsworth Basketball 3v3 competition. The Putney and   Roehampton cluster competition was held at Hotham and the school entered 3 teams.  The ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams finished 3rd in their respective groups, with the ‘A’ team winning the competition and qualifying for the Wandsworth Schools finals.  Broadwater, Shaftesbury Park, and Penwortham also won their respective cluster competition and contested the final.  Following a great round robin competition Hotham and Penwortham played in a nail bitingly close final to see who would become Wandsworth champions. In the end Penwortham ran out narrow winners by 7 points to 6.  Well done to the basketball team for giving 100% and never giving up.  It was such a nerve racking and exciting final!

 Hotham Swimming Team

The swimming team trained hard this season with some additional sessions during the weeks leading up to the swimming gala.  The team swam really well, with a number of swimmers finishing in the top 3 places.  Congratulations to Martin for winning the Year 4 boys freestyle, Alicia for coming second in the Year 5 girls backstroke, & 3rd in the breaststroke, Stevie 2nd in the Year 4 girls freestyle, Ben 3rd in the Year 5 boys freestyle, Harvey 3rd in the Year 5 boys breaststroke, and the Year 5 boys relay team were 3rd in both the freestyle and medley relays.

Sports at Hotham

We are active members of the Putney Primary Schools Sport Association (PPSSA), where local schools from Putney and Roehampton participate and compete in a wide range of sporting activities and competitions.  Hotham regularly enters teams in the football league, netball league, cricket league, cross country, swimming gala and Districts Sports (athletics).  In conjunction with our neighbouring primary schools, Hotham host multi-sports events after school on Thursdays, when there are no sports league fixtures on.

We employ a sport coach to work with pupils in Year 3 and 4 on co-ordination, ball, gymnastics, athletics, racket and net skills.  All the children in Key Stage 2 have swimming lessons for 6 months each year.  The children are taught in four ability groups for swimming.

We also employ two gymastic coaches to coach the gymnastic team and run a gymnastic club for children from Year 1 to Year 6; two football coaches to coach the school team and the development squad; and a cheerleading coach to work with the school's cheerleading team.
