ISEB Common Pre-tests

Hotham Primary School is a registered ISEB Common Pre-tests Invigilation Centre. Our Deputy Head is responsible for the administration of the Invigilation Centre. Both our Headteacher and Deputy Head are authorised invigilators.

What are the ISEB Common Pre-tests?

The ISEB Pre-Tests are a set of four online, adaptive admissions tests used by leading independent schools as part of their admissions process. Often taken in Year 6 or Year 7, the Pre-Tests include four subjects covering mathematics, English (reading comprehension and grammar), verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. The four assessments are usually taken together on the same day at Hotham but we can split these if necessary.

How do I register my child to complete the tests at Hotham?

  1. Email info@hotham.wandsworth.sch.uk and ask if we are able to invigilate for your child. Please let us know your child’s name, age and a rough idea of the dates you are working towards for your priority schools.

  2. We will contact you to confirm a suitable test date and to discuss any additional needs your child might have and how we can support them.

  3. Parents register their child to sit the ISEB Pre-Tests via the Guardian Portal and select Hotham Primary School as the Invigilation Centre.

  4. Hotham Primary School accepts the applicant via the ISEB portal.

Individual senior schools will have their own test deadlines and ISEB recommends that parents speak to schools to confirm any additional deadlines.

What is the cost?

There is no additional cost for pupils who attend Hotham Primary School.

If your child attends another primary school, is home schooled or if the date offered by the prospective senior school is not convenient then we are able to offer our services an an invigilation centre for pupils who do not attend Hotham Primary at a cost of £200 per applicant. This includes an in person meeting with the parent/s and child before the test date to ensure your child is comfortable with the test arrangements and email/phone support leading up to the test.

How are the tests administered?

Pupils complete the test individually or in small groups in a quiet room. Pupils complete the tests on a laptop with an attached mouse. They are able to have breaks and a light snack between tests. Tests are usually held from 9:30am - 12:00pm on convenient school days. The total assessment length is 2 hours 15 minutes. The standard test length for each subject is:

  • English – 40 minutes

  • Mathematics – 40 minutes

  • Non-verbal reasoning – 30 minutes

  • Verbal reasoning – 25 minutes
